Potluck Party
Dec 19, 2009
Sharon Bond, Meet Director
The weather decided to be fickle this year - snow on the ground when I went to hang the remaining controls, then changing to rain which caused huge plops of snow to come crashing down on my head as everything melted. Luckily the weather didn't cause too many people to skip the event, and we had 54 people in 18 groups come out for the event. We even got 6 boys from Troop 204 to interrupt their alumni reunion campout when I told them about the event, and they did pretty well.
The event is always held as a score-O format, with each control punched worth 1 point, with a 60 minute time limit. Returning late takes 1 point off for every minute you are late. Immediately following is the Search and Destroy-O, where each control picked up is worth 1 point. This year, 4 controls were worth 2 points: #5, #6, and #16 because they also had controls stands to be brought back, and #15, because it was in the thickest brush. Person or group with the most total points wins, with time to finish the Night-O as the tie breaker.
Many thanks to John Betts and Tom Wentling, who served as registrars, to Matt Bond for braving the thicket to hang #15 the week before, and to Ben Bond, who was this year's course designer. Many thanks to all who brought yummy food to share for the potluck party afterwards.

Note 1 - Technically, Tom is the winner - after the results were announced and Mike was crowned king of the Night, we realized that no one picked up #17. Tom went out and got it, making him the overall winner.
Note 2 - These teams worked together to bring in the controls, so they were all given credit.
Note 3- Note that Matt and Ben, who hung #15 the weekend before in the daylight, could not find it in the dark, or they would have been the only team to clear all 20 controls.
