Bike-O IX
Saturday, July 24, 2010 - Smith Park
I want to thank Tim Snyder (co-race director) for stepping up and helping with the race. Without Tims help the race might have been cancelled.
I apologize for not being able to stay & greet you after your hard race. As race director the greatest joy I get is talking with everyone after the race and hearing about your Bike-O adventures. Please feel free to share your race story with me. This year I was really stretched too thin my father-in-law was in the hospital ICU, we were taking care of my mother-in-law, my youngest daughter was showing her 4-H rabbits at the county fair, my oldest daughter & I were refereeing a high school soccer tournament. Hope everyone will try again next year; maybe someone can even end Matts winning streak.
So you thought you had it tough; just read Roberts comments below [the results] (he drove from Newark, DE). Too bad Robert didnt stop at control 5 and borrow a bike from my pastor (remember the archery bonus there in 2005?).
Did anyone happen to snap some pictures? Had I known that we had so many mountain bikers; I would have put more controls off-road. Hey maybe for Bike-O X we can
Thanks,
Larry Berna

Larry,
Thanks for organizing Bike-O IX; I thoroughly enjoyed it. My route choice to me to controls 18, 4, and 20 before the front tire on my bicycle went flat. Since I was having so much fun and I didn't have the materials to repair or replace the inner tube, I wanted to see if I could continue the course with one flat tire. I went to controls 16, 9, 5, 17, 15 and 24 before deciding that it would be best to return to the Smith Park.
I look forward to MVOC's next Bike-O event.

This link shows Larry's optimal route. Matt's winning route was similar but a little different. His control order was 18, 4, 20, 16, 9, 5, 17, 15, 24, 14, 8, 22, 7, 21, 6, 12, 23, 13, 2, 3, 10, 19, 1, 11. A one mile dogleg had to be taken somewhere. Larry planned it at 22. Matt took it at 23.
