     Starts - Benjamin Bond

Thanks to all for attending. The weather was perfect for reading a good book in front of a warm fire. The brave souls who ran the courses showed true grit and fortitude in persevering. Their endurance running through mud and across overflowing creeks gives all a deep appreciation for their mettle. Well done! I also applaud those who know their personal limits and stayed within them. I trust those that soldiered on into the raw elements did so knowing they kept within theirs.

The "mp" (mis-punch) returned by the electronic timing system indicates someone did not complete their course. This day the likely suspect was a little, normally ankle deep creek that at the time was 12-18 inches deep.

Results below are shown by division for the Jr. Champs and by course for the Shamrock Hunt in three formats for each: a standard result list, split times, and chip data.

In the Middle School/Jr. High Individual Division, Bellcreek Intermediate's Ben Bond posted the best time for the second year in a row.

Meanwhile in the Rookie Individual Division Addison Bosley from Tichenor Middle School set a blistering pace, also repeating to take the top spot two years running, while Wayne High School recaptured the large traveling team trophy from Piqua with good performances by Alex Wells, Trey Benson, Cody Swett, and Joseph Quinn.

The JV Individual Division was split, with Katie Williams from Walnut Hills High School posting the fastest time while the Wayne High School team of Gabriel Bennett, Thomas Chenault, and Aaron McDonald won the large traveling trophy for Wayne.

In the Varsity Division for the second year in a row, Adam White from Greater Cincinnati Home School was not to be denied while the Wayne High School team of Trevor Corcoran, Kyle Kruk, and Elliot Bennet maintained a four year lock on the coveted Varsity Team trophy. Of the last 11 years, Wayne has won it 8 times!

Following in a long tradition of elite orienteers' lack of navigation ability without a topographic map (or trying to retrace their course in a two-wheel drive vehicle after three inches of rain), Adam took a wrong turn leaving the camp and ended up mired in mud. Three Good Samaritans (Mike Minium, Dick Arnett, and I) were enlisted to pound rocks under his drive wheels and push him out while getting sprayed with mud. :-)

The split time list shows time spent traveling between each control. For each competitor, the first row shows cummulative time, and the second row shows each leg's split time. Leading times are in blue. For example, in the JV Individual Division, Sam Gordon maintained an early lead, winning legs 1 and 3, then slowed. Meanwhile Katie Williams and Doug Frederick won legs 2 and 4 respectively. By legs 5 and 6, Katie had two more wins to take the lead. She then won leg 8 to put a lock on the overall lead to post a 12:58 victory over second place.

The chips report is the raw data from the computer chip inside the SI cards (finger sticks). It shows the start time of day, finish time of day, elapsed time (bold), and download time of day (Read at). It also shows each control number punched and the time of day it was visited. This shows where people were and when, as they traveled around their course. It shows if people were following each other. This would be shown by a consistent punch time within seconds of each other from control to control. Following other competitors is against the MV Jr. O Champs rules. If on the day of the event an official protest is made to the meet director by a competitor or coach, and subsequent chip data indicates following (Winsplits Packrunning Index =>60%), the protest will be upheld and the competitors involved disqualified. This may affect trophy standings.
