Buckeye Goat Highlander
November 6, 2011 - Tar Hollow State Park
Weather: 60° & Sunny
Attendance: 24 in 19 starting units
Thanks for meet assistance:
Tom Svobodny and Mike Minium
After a brief set of instructions by course setter Alexander Preobrazhensky, the inaugural Buckeye Goat Highlander was afoot. Enthusiasm was high with an absolutely perfect day to run through the woods.
The elevation change was certainly several hundred feet more than found in either the Great Miami or Little Miami river valleys and tributaries. Several times runners would have to scale a very high wall of a hillside, or descend in a controlled footslide on the steep slopes. But the woods were wide open visually with almost no undergrowth, except for nature's velcro, multiflora rose!
Eventually all made their way around the courses and had a good time doing so, trading places several times between controls. The Goat course had a choice between control 13A and 13B. Most chose 13B which had closer trail access, but Tom Svobodny chose 13A. On the Kid course participants could skip any one control of their choice.
Congratulations to Tom Svobodny and Maiya Anderson for winning the men's and women's divisions of the Buckeye Goat Highlander. Congratulations to Jon Rauschenbach for winning the men's Buckeye Kid Highlander.
