Cricket Holler Night-O and Search & Destroy-O
December 9, 2023
Meet Directors: Ben and Sharon Bond
70 people braved the extremely rainy but warm conditions to participate in the Night-O and Search-and-Destroy-O at Cricket Holler, followed by an awesome potluck.
The rules were simple: a mass start at 6pm, with 1 hour to punch as many controls (out of 20) as you cared to find. Each control punched was worth 1 point. 7:00pm was the start of the search-and-destroy-O. Each control returned was worth 1 point. 4 of the controls also used the white controls stands, and each stand was worth 1 point. Every year we find new things that we need to emphasize the next year. This year we emphasized that you must also bring in the control stands, but failed to realize that telling people to "untie the control" did not mean to completely untie the entire control, leaving it in pieces.
The course was again designed by Ben Bond, who stayed mostly within the main camp area, but was under direction from Sharon to have at least 2 controls at the farthest points. This led to a very challenging control #1, which was deemed difficult enough to make its retrieval worth 2 points.
We did not institute the "Matt Bond" rule again this year. But it was not needed, as he failed to find #16, which was set by his loving wife.
This year was the battle of the JROTC groups - we had Beavercreek, Wayne, Stebbins, and Belmont.
Thanks to Matt Bond for setting up the K-Lodge. Thanks to Neil and Atlys Crichton, Sharon's nephews, for going out with Ben and Sharon to set the controls./p>
