MVOC Cold-O Grant Park January 20th,
2024
Meet Directors Bob and Barbara Hays
The 2024
MVOC COLD-O was indeed cold, it probably will turn out to be the coldest day of
Winter 23/24. Temperatures started in
the single digits for placing controls and climbed into the low teens for the
start of the event. Plus
we had a nice snow cover to add to the fun! Fortunately, the sun was out and it was not
windy so those running the course soon warmed right up. We had
an excellent turnout considering the conditions with 39 competitors in 28
starting groups. There were a number of
JROTC participants as well as many hardy MVOC members and guests as well as regional
competitors from Cincinnati and Columbus.
Several
of the controls were challenging, particularly if you tried to get them
all. Special congratulations to Nathaniel
Smith and Jonathan Madden who managed to locate all 29 controls in less than 90
minutes. Nathaniel edged out Jonathan for the
top honors based on time by just 2:22 seconds!
Special
thanks to all those who helped including Jim Hays, Matt and Sharon Bond, Scott
Eberwine and new MVOC member Alex Wick.
Without the support of these helpers, this event would not have been
possible.
