Valentine Hunt 2024
Old Reid Park & Kirby Preserve - February 10, 2024
Perfect weather was ordered and delivered for the 2024 Valentine Hunt with temps in the 50's and partly cloudy all day. We had a good turnout with 61 participants in 35 starts.
Everyone enjoyed the courses, with some people going out on a second course to have more fun. The control that gave most people trouble was #41. It was the Yellow Course's 6th control. Set just 15 feet from the trail in the broad ditch, it was not visible from the trail due to the tall prairie grass, and probaly caused most all of the mis-punch (mp) designations in the results.
A notable performance was put in by Nate Smith on the red course. Besides winning handily, prior to running, that morning he did about half of the infamous Little Miami Dirty Dozen bike challenge ride of the steepest hills in the Little Miami River Valley. Just look at the ride profile on RideWithGPS.com Maybe we should all warm up like that!
As this was the Valentine Hunt, red Valentine cutouts were hung from all the controls on the white course, and various heart-shaped chocolates were available for snacking at the finish.
Many thanks to all those that helped make the event a success:
