MVOC Cold-O Grant Park January 25th,
2025
Meet Directors – Bob and Barbara Hays
The 2025
MVOC COLD-O was in fact cold, with temperatures starting in the 20’s for placing
controls and climbed into the high 20’s for the start of the event. As the
afternoon progressed, the temperature finally broke above freezing. We had quite a bit of snow cover and ice to
make it more challenging! We had an
excellent turnout considering the conditions with 51 competitors in 32 starting
groups. There were a few JROTC
participants as well as many hardy MVOC members and guests and some regional
competitors from Cincinnati.
Several
of the controls were challenging, particularly if you tried to get them
all. Special congratulations to
Nathaniel Smith, Matt Bond and Steve Barnhart who managed to locate all 29
controls. Nathaniel finished in first
place and had an extremely impressive performance clocking in at just 1 hour
and 8 minutes. Mike Minimum finished in
second place by finding all of the hard controls and keeping his time under the
90 minute limit.
Special
thanks to all those who helped including Alex Wick for control pickup and
general support, Matt Bond for map and technical support and Sharon Bond for
training.
